NORTHWALL

First mix for 2013. Dark & minimal slip some headphones on and take a walk in a forest early in the morning and this might make sense. Enjoy

DARKNESS CLOSING IN

Its been about a year since I posted a mix but an influx of great albums (Swans, Swans, Swans) and good whiskey have led to me finally getting around to this. Let the flood begin...

DNO LOUNGE MIX

Mr Dean Fergus aka DNO hails from Sydney, Australia but these days calls Sumatra in Indonesia home.
During the day he runs a successful surf camp set amongst the jungle with some of the finest waves found anywhere on this planet and at night he can be found playing tunes in clubs anywhere from Bali to Shanghai.
In short the guy has a more exciting life than you and he's also probably a much better DJ.
Check this summer lounge mix hes dropped for us, pretty rad if you sitting back sipping a Gentleman's Jack
with your girlie carressing your lap.

Check out some of Dean's day to day activities below

IT WILL HURT ALOT

Title says it all really. A collection of tunes
for when the worlds on your shoulders. Features my all time
favourite Flaming Lips tune and a track from a NZ act that
has gone so under the radar in this country that its a crime,
White On White being the act I talking about. Would love to see
a performance one day. Taste the burden...

PULL THE FUCKING TRIGGER ALREADY

No excuses, no apologies, do what you want to do and do it fucking well!
Quit your whining, if you don't like it turn it off but before that take a risk,
push the button and if you going to fall, fall hard. Take the drop, turn the corner
at speed, turn it up and hit harder than yesterday.

GUEST MIX 1: PHOTONIC

So kicking off with the first Iwokeupinthedesert Guest Mix is Craig Scott from the New Zealand band Photonic (www.photonic.co.nz). I have known Craig for many years and he's been responsible for turning me onto various musicians and artists that its quite possible I never would have discovered if I had not known him. Heres his mix, go check Photonic out...

HOOCH.1

This is the first mix in a series I am planning on doing for a mate in Wellington who is a barman at the rather fine drinking establishment 'Hooch' which is located on Courtney Place. If you in the area stop by the place and say hi to Luke, you can't miss him, he's the one with dynamic head of fiery red hair and makes a fine cocktail to boot!

CONTROLLED RELEASE

On a rainy friday afternoon this mix started out subtly enough but before too long a corner was turned and I found the tunes growing in ferocity so it could be said this is not one for the grandparents or dinner parties.

THEY GO THERE TO DIE

Apologies it's been a while. As you would expect with winter biting the way it is this mix is not a 'sunny bird chirping oh isnt the world lovely' mix. So stick it on the stereo this sunday morning with the heater on and make you and your lover a nice cuppa coffee and then argue and makeup.

A BK GIRL IN A BK WORLD

Right electic this one is, windy one minute, laid back the next. Bit of a hot fire on a winters night.

LYING FACE DOWN IN A LAKE

A short little tonal adventure to test the senses, a little bladerunner never hurt anybody either. Pour yourself a cab sav and float away.

ALMOST OVER

Yeah had a bit of a breather from the mixes hence this guys a little loose and more of a long distance runner. Covers a lot of ground, sometimes on the road, other times veering off cross country. Hopefully you can find something in it for yourself. I'm particularly feeling The Black Angels at the moment and cannot wait for the new Unkle album in May which sees them working with Lavelle on production duties. Happy end of summer to you all. Special guest mix by Jamie McLellan coming soon...

REDISCOVERED YOUTH

Track list to come (apologies, misplaced my session list) but features Recoil, Bonny Prince Billy, James Duncan (another local genius), Smog, Black Mountain and more soul crushers. Pour yourself a large glass of what cuts you in half and embrace solitude.

ONE GREY DAY

So for some this may be a challenging listen, but what else you got on today?
Made with 2 gin and tonics on a grey afternoon this 44 min mix features two tracks off my favourite NZ album of the moment 'Noises' by White On White. Released the way all good records should (on vinyl), genius is the word that comes to mind upon listening to it.

SUNDAY SHANDY SESSION

Yeah well, after a 10 km bike ride the sun was still shining, hence upon arrival home I cracked open an ale, mixed in a little lemonade and then proceeded to play these tunes. Mainly nice chilled summer vibes with the occasional splash of grief this mix includes a track by the NZ based band Salon Kingsadore whom I believe everybody should see live at least once, hopefully they won't mind my bit of LSD bastardisation of their track 'Floating on the nile'. Go buy their latest album 'Mountain rescue' from http://www.sarangbang.co.nz and support dudes who enjoy fine wine, crisp biscuits and anything mildly pyschedelic...
